When God Speaks
“The God said, ‘Let there be light’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:3)
“And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he went out….” (1 Kings 19:12-13)
“The voice of the Lord is Powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of Majesty. (Psalms 29:4)
At the sound of His voice, at His command, the whole earth was created. The earth exists, even now, only through Him. Everything around us remains because God willed it to. The person next to you has life, the sun rises and sets everyday, the moon and stars follow and one day we have rain while the next day is dry. If God did not hold up the universe, it would fall out of existence. ‘Don’t you realise the ocean’s sandy shoreline is a boundary the waters cannot cross. God spoke and the bounds were set. The waters may toss and roar, but they will never pass.’
Is it not amazing how everything listens to God’s voice. The voice may vary, from a direct command to a gentle whisper. Yet it remains the same, full of power and majesty. A voice that ‘strikes with lightning bolts’ and ‘makes the desert quake.’ Those who hear His voice knows its power.
How can we be so deaf? If everything on earth listens to His voice, why don’t we? Everything in nature lives in harmony, at peace. Every creature knows it place because they know God’s voice, they know His power and majesty.
If we would only listen and obey, then we would know peace. We would know the power and majesty of an awesome God! May we be like Elijah who knew God’s voice. Then we could hear God and answer Him. We will know His will and the right road to follow.
